CUMBRIAN CHALLENGE 2020 POSTPONED UNTIL OCTOBER
Normally this would be our "2 Months To Go" rallying cry email for everyone taking part in the Cumbrian Challenge which is Walking With The Wounded's flagship fundraising event of the year.
Because of the extreme seriousness of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in light of the latest advice from Public Health England, we have decided to postpone the event until Friday 2nd & Saturday 3rd October 2020.
Events have technically not been banned yet but everyone involved in the Cumbrian Challenge has families, loved ones, dependants old and young who deserve our care and support. As a result we have decided it would not be appropriate to press ahead with an event that brings together 800+ people from across the UK.
Clearly this has an impact on the charity and the veterans we support.
By moving the event to October we can still preserve the fundraising. But normally that money would be raised now, in April & May, and put to use supporting those in need straight away. With this in mind we will be sending you new fundraising ideas and resources next week in order for you to hit your targets by May.
Moving the date of an event presents us as an organisation challenges but this is minimal compared to the stress and anxiety of unemployment, depression, physical and mental injury, homelessness and suicidal thoughts that some of those we support live with on a daily basis.
If you are unable to attend in October we ask you kindly to seek friends or colleagues who may take over your team and fill your boots to support the cause.
Check on your team
Clearly in the meantime please use the friendships and bonds you have within your teams to check on each other, to keep fit and healthy by exercising at home or outside where you can and sharing your activity and your motivation on social to inspire others. #CumbrianChallenge
