On Friday 17 May, Grasmere in the Lake District will be bustling with hundreds of Walking With The Wounded supporters, gearing up for the renowned Cumbrian Challenge. Among them are teams proudly representing Mastercard’s SALUTE Business Resource Group.

This year marks the 11th Cumbrian Challenge event. So far, the event has raised over £1.8 million to bolster WWTW’s employment, mental health, and support care coordination programmes to support veterans and their families. To date, 170 teams have signed up.

James Davis, WWTW Events Manager, commented, “We are grateful for the volunteers from Mastercard’s SALUTE Business Resource Group and their participation in the Cumbrian Challenge 2024. Witnessing their teams take on the different hiking routes amidst the Cumbrian Fells is a testament to their dedication to those who served. Though the trekking days may be demanding, the impact of their fundraising is immeasurable, as funds raised will provide crucial support to some of our most deserving veterans and their families.”

Robert Whittle, Director of Risk Management and SALUTE UK Lead at Mastercard said, "Our SALUTE Business Resource Group - our dedicated network of employees who are veterans, reservists, active military, retirees, friends, and family of military members – has participated in this event for several years, testing our own physical and mental resilience to remind us of the challenges that lie outside the office."
